Generally, these tours stink: they rely on the passive, sit-and-listen model (yawn); they hold their participants captive, sucking all the fun out of exploring a city; they lack originality of content; and they’re overpriced.

So we invented a better way. Through our proprietary technology, we deliver cell phone-guided, interactive tours to tourists and locals who want a more engaging way to discover their urban surroundings. Recently awarded a 2011 TripAdvisor.com Certificate of Excellence (yay, certificates!), we have been rapidly expanding across the country. We’re in 10 cities now. You:

A developer who can take charge of our mobile development plans and 1) produce a cross-platform app that wraps an awesome user interface around our existing scavenger-hunt style tours; 2) extend that application to bring even more awesome features and fun gameplay to the product.

We are a small team, and you will be our entire mobile application division, so we need you to take charge, self-manage, choose what technologies we use, and define our approach to this market. That also means you’ll be getting in on the ground floor and will have an opportunity to help shape the direction of our business.

Responsibilities

• Manage the mobile application development process, from requirements and specification to implementation, testing, and deployment
• Develop a brand new mobile app to bring our tours natively to phones
• Work closely with our web developer to integrate said app with our existing tour content and ticketing database

• Maintain the new application and implement additional features as needed

Qualifications:

• Fluent in cross-platform mobile application development
• Can design and develop gorgeous, usable mobile application interfaces
• Have already developed existing, usable apps that work on iOS and Android (ideally available through each platform’s application store)
• Self-starter who can work with minimal supervision as part of a dynamic team in a startup environment
• Huge bonus points if you can demonstrate any of the following skills:
  • Drool-worthy design chops
  • Python programming skills, especially using the Django framework

• Experience integrating with third-party APIs
